A Kentucky Colonel Commission is much more than an award if the recipient receives it in good-faith understanding its true significance and authority, if they don't realize these steps, then yes it it a pretty cool award and a big deal to be recognized as a Colonel.

This is a Very Official Award

Very few Kentucky Governors considered the Kentucky Colonel Commission as seriously as Governor Bert Combs. When the Governor was a judge he expressed that the Kentucky Colonel Commission beholds at least equal or greater powers in law than a Notary Public.
