Since Col. Daniel Boone founded the first democratic colonial government on the Kentucky River in 1775, the Kentucky Colonel became a larger than life character tied to the traditions and customs introduced by Boone. The traditions and customs of Kentucky colonels were very strong until corporations replaced the normal company and partnership infrastructures beginning in the late-1800's and early-1900's.
Based on our research we have found over 100 organizations that were created and styled by Kentucky Colonels to promote their ideals, project their image and as a reminder of their presence across the United States. All types of organizations were developed between 1875-2025. This "List of Organizations" is based on having a presence online or a legal presence with a physical address using the nouns "Kentucky Colonel" or "Kentucky Colonels".
Since our last update in January of 2021, the HOKC has reached out to their known supporters to try to bring independent organizations under their wing with a Chapter Program that was originally pitched and proposed by Col. David Wright on January 13, 2020 to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels Board of Trustees in a confidential merger and acquisition proposal. Less than 45 days later Col. David Wright and Kentucky Colonels International was sued by the HOKC for $1,000,000; today the case remain unresolved based on information obtained by Col. David Wright that the HOKC engaged in fraud to create standing to take him to court.
