Daniel Boone never wore a uniform, neither did most original colonels prior to 1792. Kentucky Colonel has been portrayed fictitiously as a character since 1833 from "Old Kentucky", in 1861 President Lincoln authorized the creation of 1,000 Kentucky colonels as civil officers in Kentucky, in 1889, Opie Read wrote "A Kentucky Colonel", in 1896 the "Honorable Title: Kentucky Colonel was adopted by the state as an icon and made into a state order for civilians.
